Rainy River Record

As the summer winds down so does the construction season. Last week Makkinga Construction began paving Highway 11 between Tower Road and First Street. Over the summer they dug up and replaced water and sewer lines along the highway. This photo shows day 2, Thursday, of paving.

Last Wednesday at about 8:45 a.m. the Rainy River Volunteer Fire Dept. was called out to Riverview Elementary School in Rainy River after a gas leak was reported there. A new gas furnace was installed over the summer and staff reported smelling gas. The situation was checked but nothing was found to be wrong at the school.

On Saturday Lake of the Woods Council officially opened Oscar's Bay Beach (Park). Mayor Val Pizey cuts the ribbon at 11:35 a.m. Fr. l. to r., Clerk Pat Giles, Councillor Tony Sepers, Councillor Nancy Gate, Mayor Val Pizey, Councillor Colleen Fadden and Councillor Joanne Moen.

The Big Grassy Lightning won the annual tournament for the second year in a row when they had the lead over the Plum Coulees and the game was called on account of darkness after five innings. Ally Weatherburn of Ericksdale, MB. caught a 5.5 lbs. Northern Pike with just three minutes to go in the Kids MBI. She won a prize for biggest fish of the tourney.
