On Sunday October 3, 2010 about 6:15 p.m. The Rainy River and Dawson Volunteer Fire Depts. were called out eight miles north on River Road for a single car accident. The male driver lost control of his car and hit a tree. The driver walk away unhurt. The O.P.P. and Rainy River Ambulance were also on the scene.

Chandler Pearson, 11, of Rainy River won the KidSport RRWT on Saturday when he reeled up this 14 inch walleye. It was one of only two fish caught in both flights!

Vaughn Murray, a long time angler in the RRWT is going to be trying a new job during the tournament. He is going be the Master of Ceremonies, emceeing the weigh ins as well as other facets of the tournament. This will be his first year as emcee. Vaughn recently emceed the Morson Bass International Tournament. He is seen here last year speaking to the crowd all garbed in fishing gimmicks and gags.

The Rainy River High School Owls 2010-11 sports season got underway last week. Their first home games were last Wednesday when the boys hosted volleyball teams and the girls hosted basketball teams from Thomas Aquinas (Kenora). Shown here, members of the Owls Jr. Boys v-ball team get ready to block a spike from a Saint. The Jr. boys lost three games to none with scores of 12-25, 9-25 and 18-25. Sr. boys lost three straight with scores of 7-25, 7-25 and 12-25. The Jr. girls b-ball team won 23-16 and the Sr. girls lost 20-53. The teams are away in Red Lake and Kenora this week.
