Close call

Daniel Krahn, his wife and two children had a close call on Sunday morning when their van collided wtih a freight train at Atwood #2 crossing. No one was killed and all were treated with non-life threatening injuries at Rainy River Hospital.

Literacy Day with singing!

Riverview and McCrossen-Tovell students were treated to celebrity musicians and vocalists who promoted literacy by singing stories with the kids. Above Riv. and McT. Vice-Principal played the ukulele and sang the words to a story.

Donna Ivall-skip, Janet Schaaf-third, Rachel Marquis-second and Janet Wolanicki-lead won the annual Rainy River Women's Bonspiel over the weekend. With only six teams, organizers opted to have a one day fun-spiel.

Deb Armstrong-skip, Dawn Drennan-third, Janice Nordin-second and Ashley Beckel-lead came in second in the RR Ladies Bonspiel over the weekend.

Dawn Jarvis, left, and Bruce Hanson, were two of the lucky winners of the Chairs for Charity drawn at the Alzheimer dinner Saturday. Jarvis is seen holding her prize beautifully painted by local artist Patti Diebel. Hanson holds up his prize, also esquisitely done by local artist Gregg Armistead.

Encased in ice!

By day's end on Saturday everything had ice on it including these branches that were perfectly encased in crystal clear ice. The freezing rain later turned to sleet and snow, making for a slushy mess in Rainy River.

All of the Chairs for Charity have been completed by local artists. This beautiful wintery landscape was painted by Patti Diebel of Rainy River.
