U.S. proposal for longet daylight savings time is a good thing

Emile-J. Therien

Letter to the editor,
The U.S. government is likely to pass a bill to extend daylight saving time this summer. The change would mean Americans set their clocks back a month later, the last Sunday of November, and set them forward a month earlier, the first Sunday of March. If the U.S. makes this change, Canada would likely have to follow suit due to cross-border business and transport schedules.

Scooter rider upset with customs

Jim Crackel

Letter to the Editor:
Last week an OPP officer came to my home and informed me that a custom officer had observed and reported my driving a scooter over the wooden part of the international bridge. No mention was made of speeding or erratic driving as I would hate to be either the hitter or hittee involving a scooter.

Dear Editor,

Dear Editor,
Dawson Council should be commended for its quick action. Just one month to the day it has come up with a solution to the sod-stone-gravel-mud drift problem. On June 13, 2005 they had the drift moved to the other side of the road.

Rosemary Tetu

Three year ago Riverview students, parents, staff and myself planted a variety of trees and shrubs in the school yards. These trees are really taking hold and will add a great deal of beauty to our school yard as well as different learning aspects to our students.

Cancer Society grateful

L. Hannam.
Rainy River Cancer Society

Dear Editor:
With Daffodil Month soon over, the Canadian Cancer Society would like to thank the many volunteers who helped make it such a big success in our community. This April, volunteers throughout the community banded together to sell bright yellow daffodils - the symbol of hope for those living with cancer - and to knock on their neighbours’ doors as part of the door-to-door campaign to raise funds in the fight against all types of cancer.

Rape of a resource?

John H. (Jack) Elliott

Dear Editor:
Here once again is an example how greed and stupidity of a few is endangering an abundant resource. The attached picture taken Sunday, April 03, 2005 of boats on the Rainy River, the Canada/ U.S. Boundary near Pinewood, Ontario is an example.

Should man have the right to take someone’s life

Mark Mast

Letter to the editor,
“That American woman” you refer to in “Our View Tough Choices Must Be Made” (March 22) has a name. She is Terri Schiavo, from Woodside Hospice in Pinellas Park, Florida. She is being intentionally starved to death because certain individuals have determined that her “quality of life” does not measure up to their criteria.
