Dryden family physician , Dr. Karen Mazurski and Northwestern Health Unit Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Pete Sarsfield both received the Heather Crowe Award today for their work to protect workers in Northwestern Ontario from second-hand tobacco smoke. The award recognizes the efforts of individuals and organizations in promoting a smoke-free Ontario at the local level.

The Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Fort Frances held their 50th-annual ceremonial review on Saturday at the Emo-La Vallee Arena.
After an inspection and the march past, the cadets gave a drill demonstration. Then they displayed their presentations, offering information on sailing, knots, and uniforms to those gathered.

Yard waste, such as grass clippings, leaves and branches, should be composted and not sent to the landfill unless your landfill has a separate composting section. Any seasoned gardener knows that these materials are a valuable landscape resource when composted or used as a mulch. Grass clippings do not need to be collected from the lawn after mowing, as they actually benefit the turf by returning nutrients and organic matter to the soil.

District anglers Todd Grennier and Eric Lessman won the fifth-annual Emo Walleye Classic on Saturday—walking away with the $11,000 top prize.
Grennier, from Emo, and Lessman, of Devlin, caught a two-day total of 16.12 pounds—beating runners-up Jody Shypit (Devlin) and Gary Noga (Fort Frances) by a mere .04 pounds.
