RRHS soccer teams ready for NORWOSSAs

It was another kick-butt weekend for the Rainy River High School soccer teams!
The boys team travelled to Dryden for another weekend of exhibition games. They played Red Lake and won 2-1, Sioux Lookout and won 2-0 and Kenora (T.A.) and tied 1-1. That left them tied for first with T.A. RRHS will now face Red Lake in the first round of the NORWOSSA’s this Thursday in Kenora.

The early summer is the time when farmers are cutting hay and putting it up for future use. You can see the big round bales in the fields as you drive by. A lot of folk who have no connection with farming don’t even know what hay is. When I have said “ No, that’s not hay, that’s straw”, I have often drawn a surprised reply “What’s the difference?”

Over 281 years of railroading Eight retire from CNR

Over 281 years of experience were celebrated at the annual Canadian National Railway retirement party in Rainy River last Saturday.
Eight men were honoured. They included Reed Armstrong, Logan Ewald, Richard Barrett, Vaughn Murray, Gary Wilson, Don Marquis, Wes Blight and Robert Desrosier.

Public meets with CNR Decision to close Little Street crossing lies with RR town council

Only Canadian National Railway attended the public meeting last Tuesday regarding the possible closure of the Little Street crossing. Transport Canada officials would not attend a meeting at which the media was present.

The Rainy River District School Board recently announced several new appointments for Principals and Vice Principals of its schools effective August 2006. There will be three new personnel joining the Board’s leadership team.
Dianne Thompson, current Principal of Huffman School, will assume the role of Principal at Crossroads School.

Local gymnists do well at regional meets

Three local girls have been springing their way to the top of the gymnastics podium lately.
Meaghan Vogan, Shauna Moen and Kendra Moen have all been competing in the past month.
