Rainy River’s hopes for federal and provincial help to fix the town’s ailing sewer system has once again been flushed down the drain.
For the second year in a row, the town’s application for Canada-Ontario Rural Infrastructure Funds (COMRIF) has been rejected. That means the community’s hopes and aspirations for future growth are again put on hold as the Ontario Ministry of Environment has an order on the town prohibiting any additions to the existing sewer system.

The plan is based on the concept that rainfall influences production and, within reasonable limits, increased moisture levels during the growing season have a positive effect on forage production. Under the Forage Rainfall Plan, insured customers receive a claim payment if the measured rainfall during the period from May through August is less than 80 percent of the long-term average for their area.

Today, the Ontario Energy Board (the “Board”) released new electricity commodity prices and distribution rates for utilities in the province.
The commodity prices were set under the Board’s Regulated Price Plan (RPP), which helps ensure that the prices consumers pay for the electricity they use better reflects the actual amount paid to generators. These prices are reflected on the “Electricity” line of consumers’ bills.

At a meeting in Rainy River last week, Rainy River Mayor Glen Armstrong opened the session with two easels headlined with “Amalgamation Pro” and “Amalgamation Con”.
