Members of the Rainy River Junior Firefighter program did some hand's on training last Friday evening. They learned how fire extinguishers worked and how to properly put a fire out and then were given a chance to experience it in the parking lot at the fire hall. Sara Gall, of Rainy River, performed "The New Girl in Town" from the musical "Hairspray" on Sunday afternoon at the annual highlights concert of the Rainy River District Festival of the Performing Arts. Gall earned the Elfé Forsberg Trophy for the Most Promising Vocalist, 15 or 16 years.

Members of the Lake of the Woods Just for Kix Dance Club held their annual spring show last Tuesday at the high school in Baudette. The club has members from both sides of the border and they performed 14 numbers. Gary "Nibs" Kreger, of Rainy River stands in front of the Indian Motorcycle he won two weekends ago at Seven Clans Casino in Warroad. The bike was said to be worth over $32,000! Kreger elected to take an undisclosed cash buyout instead of the bike.

Rainy River High School hosted soccer teams yesterday and today. Games began at Noon yesterday with the RRHS Owls boys team taking on the Sioux Lookout Warriors. The AAA Fighting Loons seven and eight-year old division hockey team, which is based in Bemidji, placed first at the Mt. Dew Blast tournament in St. Cloud, MN this past weekend. The team, which is a member of the Northland Hockey Group that offers playing time in the spring and summer, includes players from Bemidji, Bagley, Brainerd, Alexandria and Rainy River, Ontario. The players include (first row, left to right) Christopher Johnson, Brennan Brecht, Jackson Hill, Walt Schoepel, and Hunter Corrington.
